What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate how clinical and social factors influence the prognosis of acute Achilles tendinopathy in runners. Participants will undergo an initial assessment that includes questionnaires about their pain and training habits, a treadmill running evaluation, and an ultrasound examination of the Achilles tendon. Follow-up assessments will occur at one, two, and three months, where participants will complete online surveys about their pain and return for a second ultrasound. The study seeks to identify predictive factors for chronic pain in runners suffering from this condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are runners who have experienced Achilles tendon pain for less than three months and run at least five kilometers per week.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of Achilles tendon surgery or rupture will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding and management of Achilles tendinopathy in runners, potentially improving recovery outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on Achilles tendinopathy, this specific approach focusing on acute cases in runners is relatively novel.
