Exploring walking speed after knee replacement surgery

MAXIMAL and SELF-SELECTED WALKING SPEED AFTER KNEE ARTHROPLASTY

Observational Lovisenberg Diakonale Hospital · NCT06847113

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the walking speed of individuals aged 55 and older who are scheduled for knee arthroplasty. It will measure both maximal and self-selected walking speeds as indicators of physical function before and after surgery. Participants will undergo standardized functional tests and report their outcomes at three months and twelve months post-operation. The goal is to determine if walking speed can serve as a predictive measure of postoperative recovery and function.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals over 55 years old, scheduled for primary knee arthroplasty, and able to walk independently.

Not a fit: Patients with knee arthroplasty due to reasons other than osteoarthritis or those with severe neurological conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the assessment and follow-up care for patients undergoing knee arthroplasty.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored walking speed post-surgery, this specific approach focusing on both maximal and self-selected speeds in knee arthroplasty is relatively novel.
