What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the triggers of eating disorders among athletes by comparing the experiences of those who have struggled with these disorders to those who have not, all within the same sporting environment. It aims to gather insights on personal and situational factors that may contribute to the development of eating disorders, as well as athletes' perceptions on how to better address and prevent these issues in sports. By conducting interviews, the study seeks to build on previous research and understand the evolving challenges athletes face, particularly in light of early specialization and social media influences.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include competitive athletes with a history of eating disorders and those from the same club without such disorders.

Not a fit: Patients who are disabled athletes or those who do not compete at a Tier 3 level will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention strategies and support systems for athletes at risk of developing eating disorders.

How similar studies have performed: While previous studies have highlighted the prevalence of eating disorders in sports, this approach of directly comparing experiences between affected and unaffected athletes is relatively novel.
