What this trial studies
This observational study involves a multi-center, retrospective chart review of patients admitted to Methodist Health System hospitals over a five-year period. It aims to analyze clinical outcomes and treatment failure rates associated with various antibiotic strategies for Stenotrophomonas maltophilia infections. The study will utilize electronic medical records to identify eligible patients and will interpret minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) data according to Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute standards. Additionally, multivariable logistic regression will be employed to identify predictors of mortality related to S. maltophilia isolates.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with S. maltophilia isolated from respiratory or blood cultures.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have S. maltophilia infections or are under 18 years of age may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for patients suffering from Stenotrophomonas maltophilia pneumonia.
How similar studies have performed: While the study focuses on a specific pathogen and treatment strategies, similar observational studies have shown promise in understanding antibiotic resistance patterns and improving treatment outcomes.
