Exploring the Role of Sirtuins in Atherosclerosis and Aortic Stenosis
Potential Role of Sirtuins As Epigenetic Biomarkers for the Clinical Management of the Patient with Atherosclerosis or Calcific Aortic Stenosis
IRCCS SYNLAB SDN · NCT06337227
This study is testing if certain proteins called Sirtuins can help us understand heart problems like atherosclerosis and aortic stenosis in people, especially those with diabetes.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the role of Sirtuins, particularly Sirtuin 6 (SIRT6), as potential epigenetic biomarkers in patients with atherosclerosis and calcific aortic stenosis, including those with diabetes. The research focuses on molecular-based and epigenetic analyses using human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC). By examining the lncRNA signature, the study aims to enhance understanding of the mechanisms underlying these cardiovascular conditions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 years with atherosclerosis or calcific aortic stenosis, with or without diabetes.
Not a fit: Patients who cannot provide biological material for the study or refuse to participate will not benefit from this research.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to new biomarkers for early detection and treatment strategies for atherosclerosis and calcific aortic stenosis.
How similar studies have performed: While the role of Sirtuins in cardiovascular diseases is being explored, this specific approach focusing on SIRT6 and its epigenetic implications is relatively novel.
