What this trial studies
This observational study aims to establish a validation cohort to investigate the relationship between oral lichen planus and autoimmune thyroid diseases, specifically Hashimoto's thyroiditis. It will assess the prevalence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis in patients with oral lichen planus and examine the correlation between anti-TG and anti-TPO antibody levels and the severity of oral lichen planus. Additionally, it will explore the prevalence of oral lichen planus in patients diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. No interventions will be administered during this study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with oral lichen planus who do not have systemic diseases.
Not a fit: Patients with oral lichen planus who also have severe periodontal disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the connection between oral lichen planus and autoimmune thyroid diseases, potentially leading to improved patient management.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies exploring autoimmune conditions, this specific investigation into the relationship between oral lichen planus and autoimmune thyroid diseases is relatively novel.
