What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the relationship between breathing patterns and attentional functioning in children diagnosed with Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS), also known as Ondine Syndrome. The research aims to understand how the need to manage breathing affects cognitive tasks and attention in these children. By comparing the performance of CCHS children on various attentional tasks to that of control children, the study seeks to characterize specific attentional profiles and assess the impact of factors such as age and CO2 response on attention. Neuropsychological tests commonly used in clinical practice will be employed to gather data.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are French-speaking children aged 6 to 16 years with CCHS and an IQ greater than 70.
Not a fit: Patients with an IQ below 70 will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of cognitive challenges faced by children with CCHS, leading to better management strategies and interventions.
How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on a unique aspect of CCHS, similar studies have shown that understanding cognitive functions in patients with respiratory disorders can lead to significant insights.
