What this trial studies
This observational study aims to document the history of neonatology in the United States from the 1960s to the present by conducting oral history interviews with professionals who have worked in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). The research will focus on how technological advancements and evolving scientific understanding have influenced treatment decisions for neonates. Participants will include neonatologists, nurses, and social workers, and their insights will be complemented by a review of medical literature and publications. The goal is to understand the changing criteria for treatment and the impact of these changes on patient care and family expectations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are professionals who have worked in NICUs, including neonatologists, pediatricians, nurses, and social workers.
Not a fit: Patients who are not involved in the medical or counseling fields related to neonatology may not receive any benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the evolution of neonatal care, potentially informing future practices and policies in the field.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach of using oral history interviews is less common in clinical research, similar studies in other medical fields have successfully documented historical changes and practices.
