What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates how a 4-day work schedule affects the wellbeing and job performance of nurse managers compared to a standard 5-day schedule. Researchers will measure outcomes such as burnout, work/family conflict, and job satisfaction using surveys and biotracking devices. Participants will wear an Oura Ring to collect data on their sleep, heart rate variability, and physical activity throughout the study. The goal is to determine if the schedule change leads to improved wellbeing and better patient outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are full-time nurse managers at UCLA Health with a span of control greater than 40 FTE direct reports.
Not a fit: Patients working in ambulatory care settings or part-time nurse managers may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved wellbeing and job performance for nurse managers, ultimately enhancing patient care.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with similar schedule changes in healthcare settings, suggesting potential for success.
