What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the relationship between epileptic symptoms and the occurrence of psychotic disorders in patients with epilepsy. It focuses on understanding whether specific emotional symptoms during seizures are linked to a higher risk of developing psychosis. The study will involve patients who have been hospitalized for video-EEG recording and have undergone a psychiatric evaluation. By comparing patients with and without psychotic comorbidities, the research seeks to shed light on the often-overlooked psychiatric aspects of epilepsy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults with a confirmed diagnosis of epilepsy who have been hospitalized for video-EEG monitoring.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have recorded seizures during the video-EEG will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnosis and treatment strategies for patients with epilepsy and associated psychotic disorders.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study is novel, there is a growing body of literature indicating the importance of understanding psychiatric comorbidities in epilepsy.
