Exploring the causes of fungal ear infections
Exploring the Risk Factors of Otomycosis: A Case-Control Study

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify the risk factors associated with otomycosis, a type of fungal ear infection. Participants will be divided into two groups: those with symptoms of fungal otitis externa and a healthy control group. Through detailed questionnaire surveys, researchers will compare behaviors and exposures between the two groups to determine what factors may contribute to the development of this condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals experiencing symptoms of fungal otitis externa, such as ear pain, itching, and discharge.
Not a fit: Patients with conditions like otitis media or tympanic membrane perforation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify preventable risk factors for otomycosis, leading to better management and prevention strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on otomycosis, this specific observational approach focusing on risk factors is relatively novel.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Symptoms in the case group include tinnitus, ear fullness or blockage, itching, ear pain, discharge, and hearing loss. Physical examination reveals the presence of hyphae, scabs, secretions, masses, pus, red skin, erosion, swelling, or granulation in the ear canal. Laboratory fungal cultures must be positive.
