What this trial studies

This observational study examines the bacterial ecology of pilonidal cysts by analyzing medical records of patients treated at a single center between August and November 2020. It focuses on bacteriological analyses of non-abscessed cysts prior to laser treatment and compares the bacterial flora between first-time surgeries and reoperations. The study involves patients aged 18 and older who underwent treatment with Holmium Laser and received antibiotic prophylaxis. The aim is to gather insights into the bacterial profiles associated with pilonidal cysts to inform future treatment approaches.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have been treated for pilonidal cysts with Holmium Laser.

Not a fit: Patients undergoing emergency surgery for an abscess or those under legal protection will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of bacterial influences on pilonidal cysts, potentially leading to improved treatment protocols.

How similar studies have performed: While this study explores a specific aspect of pilonidal cysts, similar studies on bacterial ecology in other conditions have shown promising results.
