What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the changes in symptom distress and balance ability among patients newly diagnosed with rectal cancer. It will involve assessing patients' experiences and physical capabilities over time to understand the impact of their condition. Participants will be required to communicate in Mandarin or Taiwanese and provide consent for interviews. The study focuses on gathering qualitative and quantitative data to inform future patient care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 20 years and older who have been newly diagnosed with rectal cancer and can communicate in Mandarin or Taiwanese.

Not a fit: Patients with recurrent rectal cancer or a Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) of less than 80 may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the challenges faced by rectal cancer patients, leading to improved management strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies focusing on symptom management in cancer patients, this specific approach to balance ability in rectal cancer is relatively novel.
