What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the lived experiences of adolescents who sought psychiatric emergency care for suicidal thoughts in November 2021, alongside the perspectives of their families, teachers, and healthcare providers. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the study employs semi-structured interviews conducted by a multidisciplinary team, including child psychiatrists and anthropologists. The aim is to understand the factors contributing to the increase in suicidal crises during the COVID-19 pandemic through a comprehensive analysis of personal and contextual narratives. Data will be collected anonymously to ensure confidentiality and will focus on the mental health history and experiences related to the pandemic.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 13 to 17 years who sought emergency psychiatric care for suicidal thoughts during November 2021.

Not a fit: Patients who do not have a history of suicidal thoughts or did not seek emergency care during the specified period may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the factors influencing adolescent suicidal behavior, potentially informing targeted interventions and support strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While qualitative studies on adolescent mental health have been conducted, this specific approach focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on suicidal behavior is relatively novel.
