Exploring physical activity after a heart attack

The Physical Activity Post Myocardial Infarction SWEDEHEART Prospective Cohort Study (ACTIVITY-SWEDEHEART)

Sahlgrenska University Hospital · NCT05339477

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the relationship between different intensities of physical activity, as measured by accelerometers, and clinical outcomes in patients who have experienced a myocardial infarction. The study will enroll approximately 4000 patients over two years, who will wear accelerometers for a week during follow-up visits at two months and one year post-discharge. Researchers will analyze how varying levels of physical activity and sedentary behavior correlate with health outcomes after a heart attack.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18-79 who have been diagnosed with a type 1 myocardial infarction and are participating in cardiac rehabilitation.

Not a fit: Patients who are non-ambulatory or have mental conditions that hinder compliance with the study protocol may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into how physical activity influences recovery and long-term health after a heart attack.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results in understanding the impact of physical activity on recovery after myocardial infarction, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
