Exploring Pain Descriptors in Ankylosing Spondylitis
Descriptors of Neuropathic Spinal Pain and Their Relations With Functional Status in Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients
This study is trying to understand the different types of pain people with ankylosing spondylitis feel in their spine to see how it affects their daily life.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the neuropathic pain descriptors associated with spinal pain in patients diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). By conducting a prospective, cross-sectional analysis, the researchers will compare sensory descriptors between patients experiencing neuropathic pain and those without. The study seeks to enhance understanding of how these descriptors relate to functional status in AS patients, filling a gap in existing literature regarding inflammatory spinal pain. Participants will complete questionnaires and inventories to provide data for this analysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis who report moderate to severe spinal pain.
Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, or recent treatments that may cause neuropathy are unlikely to benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management strategies for patients with ankylosing spondylitis.
How similar studies have performed: While there has been limited research on sensory descriptors in AS, previous studies on neuropathic pain in other conditions suggest potential for meaningful insights.
