Exploring immune responses in thyroid and colon cancer

Trained Immunity of Myeloid Cells and Their Progenitors in Patients With Non-medullary Thyroid Carcinoma and Colon Carcinoma

Observational Radboud University Medical Center · NCT05280379

What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the role of innate immunity in the development of thyroid carcinoma and colon carcinoma. It aims to understand how tumor-induced changes in bone marrow myeloid progenitor cells affect patient outcomes and to identify potential therapeutic targets. The study will analyze the effects of agents that induce 'trained immunity' on these myeloid cells, with the hope of re-educating them to improve cancer treatment outcomes. The research focuses on newly diagnosed, therapy-naïve patients who are scheduled for conventional treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with newly diagnosed, therapy-naïve non-medullary thyroid carcinoma or colon carcinoma.

Not a fit: Patients with severe comorbidities, previous anti-cancer treatments, or those with conditions affecting the immune system may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to novel therapeutic strategies that enhance immune responses in cancer patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the concept of trained immunity is gaining interest, this specific approach in thyroid and colon carcinoma is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
