Exploring how Nicotinamide Riboside may protect against acetaminophen toxicity
Protective Effect of Nicotinamide Riboside Against Acetaminophen Toxicity
This study is testing if Nicotinamide Riboside can help protect astronauts from the harmful effects of acetaminophen when they take it for pain relief in space.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the protective effects of Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) against the toxic effects of acetaminophen, particularly under conditions that mimic the stress experienced in space. Participants will ingest acetaminophen alone and in combination with NR, with urine and blood samples collected to measure the levels of harmful chemicals produced. The goal is to determine if NR can reduce the production of these toxins and mitigate their adverse effects on health. This research is particularly relevant for astronauts who frequently use acetaminophen for pain relief in space.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy male and female volunteers who are not allergic to acetaminophen or Nicotinamide Riboside.
Not a fit: Patients with known allergies to acetaminophen or Nicotinamide Riboside will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a means to reduce the harmful effects of acetaminophen, improving safety for patients and astronauts alike.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of NR and acetaminophen under space-like conditions is novel, previous studies have shown potential benefits of NR in reducing oxidative stress.
