Exploring how gut bacteria affect cognitive issues in Parkinson's disease
Microbiome Composition and Function Contributes to Cognitive Impairment and Neuroinflammation in Parkinson's Disease

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the relationship between gut microbiome composition and cognitive impairment in individuals with Parkinson's disease. It aims to identify alternative mechanisms contributing to cognitive decline, beyond the traditional understanding of dopaminergic disruptions. By examining the gut-bacterial composition, the study seeks to uncover potential prognostic indicators and novel treatment targets for cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease. Participants will be evaluated based on their microbiome profiles and cognitive function.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of significant neurological events or gastrointestinal diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and treatment options for cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease.
How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between gut microbiome and neurological conditions is being explored, this specific approach is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
