What this trial studies
This study investigates the neural mechanisms involved in cognitive reappraisal, a technique used to manage negative emotions by changing one's perspective on a situation. Participants aged 18-55 will undergo a single session at the neuroimaging facility at CU Boulder, where they will be trained in cognitive reappraisal techniques and then engage in a picture-based task while their brain activity is monitored using fMRI. The study aims to assess the impact of this training on self-reported emotions before and after the task. Data collected will help understand how cognitive strategies can influence emotional responses.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are community members aged 18-55 who are fluent in English and do not exhibit psychotic symptoms.
Not a fit: Patients with current psychotic symptoms may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into effective strategies for enhancing emotional well-being and managing negative emotions.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results in using cognitive reappraisal techniques to improve emotional regulation, indicating potential success for this approach.
