What this trial studies
This observational study uses the Photovoice method to understand the reflections and emotions of bereaved parents regarding hope during their child's hospice care. Parents will select 1-5 photographs from their child's time on hospice that represent their thoughts about hope, guided by a conversation with a researcher. They will then participate in a semi-structured interview to discuss their selections and share their experiences. The study aims to provide insights into the emotional landscape of bereaved parents and how they conceptualize hope.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are parents of children who received hospice care at St. Jude and died 6-24 months prior to enrollment.
Not a fit: Patients who are not fluent in English or Spanish or who do not feel comfortable discussing their experiences may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide bereaved parents with a platform to express their emotions and reflections, potentially aiding in their healing process.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of Photovoice in bereavement contexts is emerging, similar qualitative approaches have shown promise in understanding patient and family experiences in healthcare settings.
