What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the relationship between parental age and birth order in patients diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. It aims to recruit 300 patients for each eating disorder and includes a control group of healthy subjects without eating disorders. Participants will undergo psychometric assessments using standardized questionnaires to evaluate pathological eating behaviors and psychological issues. The study will analyze the data to identify potential familial influences on the development of these disorders.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents and adults aged 12 to 59 diagnosed with anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.
Not a fit: Patients with malignant diseases, severe mental disorders, or those not fluent in German may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the familial factors contributing to eating disorders, potentially leading to improved prevention and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific focus on parental age and birth order in eating disorders may be novel, similar studies exploring familial factors in mental health have shown promising results.
