What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the discrepancies between parents and adolescents in evaluating the adolescent's suicidal intent following a suicide attempt. It employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative measures and qualitative insights to assess the evolution of suicidal crises over a three-month period. Participants, including adolescents aged 11 to 17 and their parents, will complete various questionnaires at the beginning of the study and again after three months to track changes in suicidal intent and related outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 11 to 17 who have recently attempted suicide and their parents or guardians.
Not a fit: Patients who are not fluent in spoken French or those with severe psychiatric or somatic conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of parent-adolescent dynamics in suicidal crises, potentially leading to improved interventions and support for at-risk youth.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research in the area of adolescent suicide and family dynamics, this specific mixed-methods approach focusing on parent-adolescent discordance is relatively novel.
