What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effects of orthodontic treatment using a hyrax expander to widen the upper jaw in children with a narrow maxilla. The study aims to determine if this intervention can lead to improvements in sleep-related breathing problems, as reported by parents through the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ). It will involve 20 children diagnosed with transverse maxillary constriction, who will undergo 3D facial and dental scans before and one year after treatment to assess changes in facial structure and palate volume. The results will be compared to a control group of children without this condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children diagnosed with transverse maxillary constriction who require orthodontic intervention.
Not a fit: Patients with hypodontia or craniodentofacial deformities may not benefit from this treatment.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly improve sleep quality and breathing patterns in children with narrow maxilla.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results in using orthodontic interventions for improving sleep-related issues, suggesting this approach may be effective.
