What this trial studies

This pilot study aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a 12-week exercise intervention designed for oncology care providers experiencing burnout. Participants will choose between two exercise groups: supervised circuit-based resistance training or nature-based walking. The study will assess the impact of these interventions on the well-being of healthcare professionals who care for cancer patients. Group assignment will be based on participant preference, allowing for personalized engagement in the program.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are oncology care providers aged 18 and older who work within the Nova Scotia Cancer Care Program and are willing to engage in low-to-moderate intensity physical activity.

Not a fit: Patients who exceed the Canadian physical activity guidelines or have health conditions that prevent safe participation in exercise will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce burnout and improve the mental health of oncology care professionals.

How similar studies have performed: While there is growing interest in exercise interventions for healthcare professionals, this specific approach focusing on oncology care providers is relatively novel.
