What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of an exercise program specifically designed for senior adults diagnosed with hepatobiliary cancer who are preparing for surgery. Participants will engage in both resistance and aerobic training to assess improvements in their physical condition prior to undergoing liver resection. The study aims to determine if prehabilitation can enhance surgical outcomes and recovery for these patients. The research is being conducted at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 65 and older with resectable hepatobiliary cancers who are scheduled for surgery.

Not a fit: Patients who are younger than 65 or have unresectable liver cancer will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could improve surgical outcomes and recovery times for older adults with liver cancer.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with prehabilitation programs in surgical patients, suggesting potential success for this approach.
