What this trial studies
This study investigates the feasibility and adherence of long-term, moderate-intensity physical activity programs for individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. It aims to evaluate the impact of exercise on non-communicable disease risk factors, exercise capacity, body composition, and cognitive function. The intervention includes both physical activity and cognitive rehabilitation components, addressing the unique barriers faced by this population in engaging with exercise. By promoting lifestyle changes, the study seeks to improve overall health outcomes for individuals with schizophrenia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia for at least one year who are stable on their antipsychotic medications.
Not a fit: Patients with recent changes to their therapeutic regimen or those with certain medical conditions that interfere with physical activity may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance the physical and mental health of individuals with schizophrenia, potentially reducing their risk of chronic diseases.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with exercise interventions for mental health conditions, suggesting that this approach may be beneficial for individuals with schizophrenia as well.
