What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effects of two different exercise regimens on patients with shoulder impingement syndrome. Forty patients will be randomly assigned to either a study group receiving closed-chain shoulder girdle scapular depression exercises or a control group performing shoulder girdle depression against manual resistance. Both groups will also engage in stretching, eccentric exercises, and strength training over a period of five weeks. The goal is to determine which exercise method is more effective in improving shoulder function and reducing disability.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 25 to 45 with stage I or II shoulder impingement as diagnosed by an orthopedic surgeon.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of cardiac diseases, cervical radiculopathy, shoulder instability, frozen shoulder, or acute shoulder trauma may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more effective exercise protocols for patients suffering from shoulder impingement syndrome.

How similar studies have performed: While various exercise methods have been explored for shoulder impingement, this specific comparison of closed-chain versus manual resistance exercises is relatively novel.
