What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the relationship between the Mucin B5 rs (35705950) gene polymorphism and the length of leukocyte telomeres in patients with interstitial lung diseases. By analyzing genetic variations and their potential impact on telomere length, the study aims to enhance understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying these lung conditions. Participants will be adults over 18 years old diagnosed with interstitial lung diseases, while those with certain exclusions such as emphysema or active cancer will not be eligible.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old diagnosed with interstitial lung diseases.

Not a fit: Patients with emphysema, obstructive lung diseases, active cancer, end-stage renal failure, or liver cell failure may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into genetic factors influencing interstitial lung diseases, potentially leading to improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While this study explores a specific genetic polymorphism in relation to telomere length, similar studies have shown varying degrees of success in linking genetic factors to lung disease outcomes.
