What this trial studies

This study investigates the relationship between tumor thickness and the involvement of level IV cervical lymph nodes in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue and floor of the mouth. It aims to determine if specific subsites of the tongue and certain tumor thickness cutoffs correlate with the risk of occult metastases in these lymph nodes. The approach involves the surgical removal of the primary tumor and neck dissection to assess lymph node involvement. The findings could provide valuable insights into treatment strategies for oral cavity cancers.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 15 to 60 with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue or floor of the mouth.

Not a fit: Patients with recurrent squamous cell carcinoma or those who have undergone radiation or chemotherapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance surgical decision-making and improve patient outcomes by identifying patients at higher risk for lymph node metastasis.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on this specific correlation, similar studies have explored lymph node involvement in head and neck cancers, indicating potential for meaningful findings.
