What this trial studies

This observational study aims to compare the effects of smartphone addiction on posture deviations, physical fitness, and intelligence among children and adolescents aged 9 to 18 years in Egypt. Participants will be assessed using an activity questionnaire, Raven's Progressive Matrices test for intelligence, and postural assessment software. The study will include individuals with a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 40 and a score of 24 or more on the smartphone addiction scale. Those with visual or hearing defects, cachexia, neurological disorders, musculoskeletal problems, or congenital abnormalities will be excluded from participation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children and adolescents aged 9 to 18 years who exhibit signs of smartphone addiction.

Not a fit: Patients with visual or hearing defects, cachexia, neurological disorders, musculoskeletal problems, or congenital abnormalities may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the negative impacts of smartphone addiction on youth, potentially guiding interventions to improve physical and cognitive health.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into smartphone addiction and its effects, this specific comparative approach focusing on posture, fitness, and intelligence in a defined age group is relatively novel.
