Examining the effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation on brain control mechanisms
iTBS/fMRI Study of Apex Control

What this trial studies
This study investigates how transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) affects the prefrontal cortex and posterior parietal cortex through a series of controlled tasks. Participants will engage in the Comprehensive Control Task (CCT), which involves making decisions based on visual stimuli that vary in shape and color. The design includes different blocks that require participants to switch tasks or retain information, allowing researchers to assess hierarchical control in cognitive processing. The study aims to provide insights into the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive control.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are right-handed individuals aged 18 to 30 who are fluent in English.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of psychiatric or neurological disorders, or those taking related medications, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance our understanding of cognitive control mechanisms and inform treatments for conditions affecting cognitive function.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of TMS in cognitive studies is established, this specific factorial design approach is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
