Examining the effects of cooling flavors in e-cigarettes on sensory experience
Examine the Effects of Novel E-cigarette Constituents and Determining Appropriate Concentrations Among Adults
NA · Yale University · NCT05932693

What this trial studies
This pilot experiment aims to evaluate the sensory experience of adult e-cigarette users when exposed to different concentrations of cooling flavors, specifically WS-3 and menthol. A total of 30 participants will engage in a single laboratory session where they will sample e-liquids containing varying concentrations of these cooling agents without nicotine. Participants will rate the perceived 'coolness' of each sample using a standardized scale, allowing researchers to identify optimal concentrations for further studies. The goal is to establish both low and high concentrations that provide a clear cooling sensation without discomfort.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have used e-cigarettes containing nicotine within the past 30 days.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have uncontrolled asthma, or have allergies to e-liquid flavorants may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help refine e-cigarette flavor formulations to enhance user experience and satisfaction.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar studies have explored flavoring effects in e-cigarettes, indicating potential for meaningful insights.
