Examining spinal alignment changes after hip and knee replacement surgeries
Knee-Hip-Spine Harmony: The Relationship Between Sagittal Spinal Alignment in Total Hip/Knee Arthroplasty

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the relationship between sagittal spinal alignment and total hip or knee arthroplasty in patients suffering from osteoarthritis. It aims to assess how these surgeries impact trunk parameters and whether they lead to improvements or deteriorations in spinal alignment. The study focuses on patients who have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery and tracks their spinal alignment over a follow-up period of at least one year. By understanding these relationships, the study seeks to provide insights into optimizing surgical outcomes for patients with concurrent spinal and joint issues.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include elderly patients with primary degenerative arthritis of the knee or hip who have undergone total hip or knee replacement surgery.
Not a fit: Patients with previous hip or spine surgeries, significant scoliosis, or rheumatoid arthritis lesions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance post-surgical outcomes for patients undergoing hip or knee replacements by improving understanding of spinal alignment.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on the relationship between THA/TKA and spinal alignment, similar studies in related areas have shown promising results.
