Examining sex differences in coronary microvascular dysfunction in patients with non-obstructive coronary artery disease

Sex Difference of Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction Evaluated by Coronary Flow Reserve in Patients With Non-obstructive Coronary Artery Disease

Observational Korea University Anam Hospital · NCT06076551

This study is trying to see if men and women with chest pain but no major blockages in their heart arteries have different issues with small blood vessels in the heart.

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the differences in coronary microvascular dysfunction between sexes in patients who experience chest pain but have no significant coronary artery stenosis. Patients will undergo adenosine stress echocardiography to assess coronary microvascular function by measuring coronary blood flow velocities at specified intervals after adenosine infusion. The study focuses on understanding how these differences may impact the management and treatment of microvascular angina.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals experiencing typical or atypical chest pain with no significant coronary artery stenosis.

Not a fit: Patients with moderate valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, or those with chronic renal failure may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnosis and treatment strategies for patients suffering from microvascular angina, particularly by considering sex-specific differences.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research in coronary microvascular dysfunction, this specific focus on sex differences in patients with non-obstructive coronary artery disease is relatively novel.
