Examining Protein Levels in Asthmatic Airway Smooth Muscle
Assessing the Expressions of Ezrin, Phosphorylated Ezrin, and Pip5k1α in the Airway Smooth Muscle of Asthmatic Patient
This study looks at protein levels in the airway muscles of people with asthma to see how they might affect the condition and help find new ways to treat it.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the expression levels of Ezrin and Pip5k1α proteins in the airway smooth muscle of patients with asthma. By analyzing lung tissue samples from both asthmatic and non-asthmatic individuals, the study aims to clarify the role these proteins play in asthma pathology. The findings could provide insights into new therapeutic targets for asthma treatment, addressing the limitations of current medications. The study does not involve any interventions, focusing solely on the analysis of existing tissue samples.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 18-70 who have undergone lung tissue sampling for surgical reasons and have been diagnosed with bronchial asthma.
Not a fit: Patients diagnosed with COPD or those whose lung tissue samples are deemed inappropriate for the study will not benefit from this research.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to the identification of new therapeutic targets for asthma, potentially improving treatment options for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of examining Ezrin and Pip5k1α in asthma is novel, similar studies have successfully identified new protein targets in other respiratory conditions.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Lung tissue samples; * The samples come from patients aged 18-70 years old, regardless of gender, who underwent lung tissue sampling for surgical indications during treatment; * Paraffin sections of lung tissue from patients diagnosed with bronchial asthma, including tracheal smooth muscle; * Paraffin sections of lung tissue from non-asthma patients, including tracheal smooth muscle. Exclusion Criteria: * Paraffin sections of lung tissue from patients who have been diagnosed with COPD; * Other situations where the researcher deems it inappropriate to participate in this study.
