Examining perception in people with Parkinson's disease
Perception in Parkinson's Disease
Boston University Charles River Campus · NCT05483036
This study is trying to understand how different experiences, like seeing things that aren't there, affect daily life and feelings in people with Parkinson's disease, even if they don't have visual hallucinations.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the relationship between perceptual experiences, such as visual hallucinations, and various functional variables like cognition, mood, and alertness in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Participants will complete an online survey that includes demographic and health information, as well as questionnaires assessing their perceptual experiences, mood, motivation, sleep, fatigue, and quality of life. The study will involve approximately 60 participants and is designed to gather insights into how these perceptual variables relate to overall functioning in Parkinson's disease. Importantly, participants do not need to experience visual hallucinations to take part in the study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 40 and older with a self-reported diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease who have functional vision and internet access.
Not a fit: Patients with self-reported poor vision or those lacking access to the internet and a desktop or laptop computer may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of perceptual experiences in Parkinson's disease, potentially leading to better management strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on perceptual experiences in Parkinson's disease, similar observational studies have shown promise in understanding the cognitive and emotional aspects of the condition.
