Examining obstructive sleep apnea in never smokers with lung cancer
Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Never Smokers With Newly Diagnosed Lung Cancer: Prevalence and Impact on Prognosis
This study looks at how common sleep apnea is in people with lung cancer who have never smoked to see how it might affect their treatment and recovery.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients with lung cancer who have never smoked. By focusing on this specific population, the study seeks to eliminate smoking as a confounding variable that has affected previous research findings. Patients will undergo respiratory polygraphy before starting their lung cancer treatment, allowing for both cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of the data collected. The goal is to understand how OSA may impact the prognosis of lung cancer in these patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are never smokers who have been newly diagnosed with lung cancer and have an ECOG Performance Status of 0 or 1.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously received treatment for lung cancer or obstructive sleep apnea, or those with severe comorbid conditions, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea and lung cancer outcomes, potentially leading to improved management strategies for affected patients.
How similar studies have performed: While previous studies have explored the relationship between OSA and lung cancer, this specific focus on never smokers is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
