What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the prevalence of hyponatremia in patients newly diagnosed with dengue infection at Hospital Posadas in Argentina. It aims to understand the relationship between low sodium levels and systemic inflammation associated with dengue. Diagnosis of dengue is confirmed through IgM serology or PCR, and hyponatremia is defined as a serum sodium concentration of 135 mEq/L or lower. The study collects data from patients admitted between January 1, 2016, and November 1, 2023.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with newly diagnosed dengue infection confirmed by PCR or serology.
Not a fit: Patients with pre-existing conditions affecting sodium levels or those not diagnosed with dengue may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of hyponatremia in dengue patients, potentially leading to better management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between hyponatremia and dengue is being explored, this specific observational approach may provide novel insights into the condition.
