Examining liver cysts in patients with echinococcosis

Presentation of Protoscolexes and Acephalocysts in the Fibrous Capsule Area of the Liver With Echinococcosis During Organ-preserving Surgery

Observational Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Surgery Named After V. Vakhidov · NCT06316154

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the presence of germinal elements of echinococcosis within the liver parenchyma adjacent to the fibrous capsule of hydatid cysts. Patients with primary or recurrent liver echinococcosis requiring surgical intervention will undergo echinococcectomy, during which samples of the fibrous capsule and possibly adjacent liver tissue will be collected for analysis. The study seeks to enhance understanding of the disease's pathology and improve surgical outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with liver echinococcosis cysts larger than 5 cm requiring surgical treatment.

Not a fit: Patients with cysts smaller than 5 cm or those with severe concomitant disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better surgical techniques and improved management of liver echinococcosis.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored echinococcosis, this specific observational approach focusing on germinal elements in the liver is relatively novel.
