Examining inflammation and biomarkers in organ transplant patients

Biomarkers and Inflammation in Solid Organ Transplantation: Relationship With Short- and Long-Term Outcomes

IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna · NCT06774339

What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on adult patients who have undergone solid organ transplantation, including heart, liver, lung, and kidney transplants. It aims to measure various biological markers related to inflammation and cellular aging to identify patients at higher risk for transplant failure and other complications. The study will collect data on cytokines, inflammatory microRNAs, circulating free DNA, and epigenetic markers to help personalize immunosuppressive treatments and improve patient outcomes. The research is being conducted at the IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult patients aged 18 and older who have received a solid organ transplant.

Not a fit: Patients who have not undergone any solid organ transplantation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more personalized and effective immunosuppressive therapies for transplant patients, potentially improving their long-term outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using biomarkers in transplantation is being explored, this specific study's focus on cellular senescence and personalized treatment is relatively novel.
