Examining how walking is affected by femoroacetabular impingement

The Relationship Between Spatiotemporal Gait Parameters and Imaging-based Characteristics of Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) in Symptomatic Individuals

Gazi University · NCT06536088

What this trial studies

This observational study evaluates the spatiotemporal gait parameters of patients with symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) who are scheduled for hip arthroscopy. It involves recording radiological measurements such as the Alpha angle, Lateral Center-Edge Angle, and Kellgren-Lawrence classification from patient files. The study compares the gait parameters of FAI patients with a healthy control group to assess the impact of FAI on walking. Statistical analyses, including paired samples t-tests and correlation coefficients, are used to analyze the data.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients diagnosed with femoroacetabular impingement who are scheduled for hip arthroscopy.

Not a fit: Patients with severe hip osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, or those who have had previous hip surgeries may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of how FAI affects movement, potentially leading to improved treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is not widely tested, similar studies have shown that gait analysis can provide valuable insights into joint conditions.
