What this trial studies

This observational study will recruit 25 healthy adults aged 21-70 who require the extraction of a posterior tooth. Before the extraction, various clinical markers of periodontal inflammation, body mass index, and dental radiographs will be assessed. The tooth will be extracted atraumatically, and soft tissue biopsies will be taken from the extraction site at both two weeks and three months post-operation to analyze the immune response during wound healing. The study aims to understand the relationship between periodontal inflammation and the healing process following dental procedures.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy adults aged 21-70 with a non-restorable posterior tooth requiring extraction.

Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases that affect inflammation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance our understanding of how periodontal inflammation impacts wound healing, potentially leading to improved dental care practices.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into the effects of periodontal health on healing, this specific approach of examining immune responses through biopsies post-extraction is relatively novel.
