What this trial studies
This study investigates the relationship between muscle insulin action and exercise-induced glucose uptake in individuals with upper body obesity. It aims to explore this interaction from a whole-body perspective down to the cellular and molecular levels. Participants will engage in exercise interventions to assess how their bodies respond in terms of glucose metabolism. The study includes both insulin-sensitive and insulin-resistant groups to provide a comprehensive understanding of these mechanisms.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include premenopausal women and age-matched men who are upper body obese and weight stable for at least two months.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 or over 55 years old, those using glucose-lowering agents, or with a history of certain medical conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved exercise recommendations and interventions for individuals with upper body obesity, enhancing their metabolic health.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in examining exercise effects on glucose metabolism, but this specific focus on upper body obesity is relatively novel.
