Examining how dual-tasking affects walking in children with developmental coordination disorder
The Influence of an Interceptive Task on Gait in Children With Developmental Coordination Disorder Compared to Typically Developing Children
NA · University Ghent · NCT06400043

What this trial studies
This study aims to analyze the gait patterns of children aged 7 to 17 with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) using the Gait Real-time Analysis Interactive Lab (GRAIL) at Ghent University Hospital. Participants will undergo a motor test and walk on a treadmill while performing cognitive and motor dual tasks. Data collected will include 3D kinematics, kinetics, and EMG to assess how dual-tasking impacts their walking ability compared to typically developing children. The study will help understand the degree of gait automatization in children with DCD.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 7 to 17 with an official diagnosis of developmental coordination disorder who can walk for at least 15 minutes.
Not a fit: Patients with neurological disorders, those on medications affecting gait, or those with recent lower limb surgeries may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved therapeutic strategies for enhancing gait in children with developmental coordination disorder.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success in analyzing gait patterns using similar dual-tasking approaches, but this specific focus on DCD is relatively novel.
