What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate gait parameters and balance in individuals diagnosed with obstructive lung diseases, including COPD, bronchiectasis, and asthma. It seeks to understand the relationship between gait disturbances and clinical indicators, as well as the impact of these factors on daily activities such as walking. The study will assess various gait characteristics and balance issues that may contribute to falls in these patients, filling a gap in existing literature that primarily focuses on COPD alone.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 18-65 diagnosed with obstructive lung diseases who have not experienced recent exacerbations or infections.
Not a fit: Patients who use walking aids, require chronic oxygen support, or have significant orthopedic or neuromuscular comorbidities may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of gait and balance issues in patients with obstructive lung diseases, potentially reducing fall risk.
How similar studies have performed: While studies have shown gait and balance issues in COPD patients, this study is novel as it aims to explore these parameters in a broader range of obstructive lung diseases.
