What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the cognitive functions, manual skills, and upper extremity muscle thickness of geriatric individuals aged 60 to 80 living in nursing homes and at home. Participants will undergo various evaluations, including the Purdue Pegboard Test for manual skills, the STROOP and MoCA tests for cognitive status, and ultrasound measurements for muscle thickness. The study plans to include 100 geriatric individuals, focusing on those with similar demographic characteristics. Data collected will help understand the relationship between cognitive and physical functions in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are geriatric individuals aged 60 to 80 who can communicate verbally and have a cognitive assessment score above 21.

Not a fit: Patients with severe visual impairment, neurological disorders, or those using walking aids may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the cognitive and physical health of older adults, potentially leading to improved care strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored cognitive and physical functions in older adults, this specific approach focusing on both manual skills and cognitive assessment in a comparative setting is relatively novel.
