Examining brain connectivity in patients with hereditary retinal dystrophies using MRI

VIsual Cerebral ConnecTivity On Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Patients With Hereditary REtinal Dystrophies

Observational Fondation Ophtalmologique Adolphe de Rothschild · NCT04648124

What this trial studies

This observational study involves a cohort of approximately 300 patients with hereditary retinal dystrophy who are followed annually at the Rothschild Foundation A Hospital. Patients will be informed about the study prior to their ophthalmology consultation, and if they consent, resting state functional MRI (rMRI) will be scheduled on the same day to assess visual brain networks. The study aims to gather data on brain connectivity related to vision in these patients, potentially enhancing understanding of their condition.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 with a clinical diagnosis of hereditary retinal dystrophy or maculopathy, who are not undergoing certain treatments like retinal implants in the next six months.

Not a fit: Patients with legal protection measures, pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with contraindications to MRI, or recent eye surgery may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the brain's visual processing in patients with hereditary retinal dystrophies, potentially guiding future treatments.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar studies using MRI to assess brain connectivity in visual disorders have shown promising results.
