What this trial studies
This study investigates how diabetes mellitus affects blood vessel functionality and oxygen uptake in muscles. It will involve 125 participants divided into three groups: those with type 1 diabetes (with and without vascular complications), those with type 2 diabetes (with and without vascular complications), and healthy individuals. Participants will undergo assessments including blood pressure monitoring, Flow Mediated Dilatation (FMD) measurements, and handgrip exercise tests to evaluate their vascular and muscular responses. The goal is to understand the impact of diabetes on oxygen flow and energy production in muscles.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include men and women aged 18-85 with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, with or without vascular complications, as well as healthy participants.
Not a fit: Patients with other types of diabetes, active cancer, or those who are pregnant may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of vascular complications in diabetes, enhancing patient care.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in examining vascular function and oxygen uptake in diabetes, indicating that this approach is supported by existing research.
