What this trial studies

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of computer-based virtual reality (VR) simulation in enhancing nursing students' knowledge, satisfaction, and self-confidence regarding oral care practices for unconscious patients. Conducted with first-year nursing students at Giresun University in Turkey, the study involves a randomized controlled design with 68 participants divided into two groups: one receiving VR simulation and the other using a low-reality patient manikin. Data will be collected through various forms and scales to measure the outcomes of the intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are first-year nursing students who have not previously received training in oral care practices.

Not a fit: Students who have graduated from health-related high schools or have prior training in oral care practices may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve nursing education and the preparedness of students in providing essential care to unconscious patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of VR in education is gaining traction, this specific application in nursing education is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
